Identification
Large bill, blackish and horn-colored. Plumage mostly white-buff with black streaks on head and slight vermiculation on belly. Black and blue wings. Male has blue tail, female has brown tail.

Range and habitat
Subspecies found in north Australia, from Queensland to Brisbane and Byron Bay. Occurs in savanna and eucalypt woodlands, open forests, mangroves and cultivated lands, to 600 m.

Status : The species is safe so far and locally increasing because of deforestation. Habitat cleared in parts of northern Australia. Common and well bred in aviculture.
