Identification
The species grows to 80 cm in length for a weight of 1,4 kg. Bright red face wattle. Male slaty grey with dark belly and dark markings on wings, dark crest with round tips, long curved ornamental plumes on tail. Female brown and black.

Range and habitat
The species is found in Southeast Asia, from east Myanmar to north and central Vietnam with isolated population in south-west Thailand and south Cambodia. Lives in primary and secondary evergreen and dry forests, to 800 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species is still relatively common but its habitat is more and more degraded. Additionally, it is regularly hunted for sport and for food.
