Identification
Adults grow to 65 cm long for a weight of 1,1 kg. Red facial wattle. Female is entirely dark brown with slight mottling on breast and wings, dark tail. Male’s plumage dark iridescent blue, white crest. Hatinhensis has white tail feathers.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in South-East Asia and is endemic to the province of Annam in central Vietnam. Lives in lowland sloping secondary evergreen forest with dense understory.

IUCN RED LIST : CRITICALLY ENDANGERED
CITES : Appendix I
Status : The species hasn’t been recorded in the wild in recent times. If any wild population survives, it is likely to be extremely small and fragmented. Targeted by captive breeding programs in USA, Europe and Asia. A reintroduction program is taking shape in partnership with a conservation breeding center in Vietnam.
