Identification
Body length of 115 cm with tail, total length of males exceed 2 meters with ornamental plumes. Female grey-brown with clear belly and brown crest. Male bright metallic blue with iridescent green back, blue crest and white stripes on face.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in South Asia, from east Pakistan to most of India, Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Lives in open deciduous forests, woodlands and cultivated areas, to 2000 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix III
Status : The species is still locally common in protected areas but has declined elsewhere. It has been successfully introduced in a few other countries.
