Identification
The species grows to 61 cm long for a weight of 1,4 kg. Males have buff breast and pale plumage, buff motted with black, white and brown. Facial skin bright orange. Female is dark brown with rows of grey to dirty white spots on breast.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in eastern Asia and is endemic to south China, being found from Guangdong to Zhejiang and northeast Guangxi. Lives in mountain evergreen, mixed and coniferous forests, from 800 to 2000 m.

Conservation
IUCN RED LIST : VULNERABLE
CITES : Appendix I
Status : The species has relatively small populations threatened by habitat loss (for agriculture) and hunting. Occurs in a few protected areas.
Ex-Situ Programs : SSP in America, ESB in Europe
