Identification
Adults can grow to 65 cm in length for a weight up to 1 kg. All black plumage, sometimes with clear to white band on sides of head. All clear-yellow bill with large casque showing two side ridges. Black eye-ring and cheek patch for males.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in South-East Asia and is found from extreme south Thailand and Malaysia to Sumatra, Borneo and nearby small islands. Lives in lowland primary evergreen forests, gallery and swamp forests, to 200 m.

IUCN RED LIST : VULNERABLE
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species is widespread but only locally common as it is a forest specialist. Highly threatened by habitat loss with expected important declines.
