Identification
Adults can reach 90 m in length for 2.9 kg. Unmistakable. Most plumage black except for white thighs and tails. Long curved yellow-orange bill with large banana-shaped casque. This subspecies has a long tightly recurved casque.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in South-East Asia, from south Thailand to Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo and Java. This subspecies is endemic to Borneo. Lives in primary evergreen and tall secondary forest, up to 1400 m.

Status : The species is still locally common but has declined in many other areas because of deforestation, habitat fragmentation and, locally, hunting.
