Identification
Black plumage with white tail. Male has long horn-colored bill with brown base, thick casque and rufous neck and head. Subspecies with darker chocolate brown neck for males.

Range and habitat
Subspecies endemic to south Moluccas archipelago in Indonesia (islands of Kelang, Seram and Ambon). Found in primary and secondary evergreen forests, riverine forests, to 1800 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : This species is declining because of deforestation and illegal hunting and trapping for the trade. However, it is more resilient to habitat change than other hornbills and remains common overall.
