Adults can reach 43 cm in length, weight unknown. Head and breast rufous-brown with black streaking. Wings and back rufous brown with brown spotting, belly white with black streaks. This subspecies is less streaked and a bit lighter.
Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs in northern Philippines, on Luzon and Catanduanes. Species also found on Samar, Leyte, Bohol and Mindanao. Lives in lowland and lower montane forests and forest edges, to 1170 m.

CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species has suffered from habitat loss throughout its range and this is still the case today. Locally threatened by hunting and capture for trade.
