Identification
Poorly developed facial disk. Dark grey head with white patch over bill. Dark grey-brown wings, long tail. Breast and belly brown with vertical rows of large white blotches.

Range and habitat
Subspecies occurs from south Malaysia to Sumatra, Riau Archipelago and Bangka. Found in forests, woodlands, parks, gardens, plantations, often near streams and watercourses.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species seems to remain relatively common but information on populations and their trends, especially in deforested areas, is totally lacking. Monitoring is needed urgently.
