Identification
Adults can reach 44 cm in length for a weight of 700 g. Back is beige-grey to brown with dark spotting. Belly is white or buff. Heart-shaped facial disk with color depending on subspecies. This subspecies has rich brown back and is larger.

Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs from Canada and USA to Caribbean islands. Species found throughout America. Lives in open lowlands with trees or man-made structures. Also in cities.

Status : The species has a huge range and is overall common and safe. Some species may be at risk from persecution, loss of prey or habitat.
