Identification
Adults can grow to 13 cm in length. Male has iridescent green crown, red throat and breast with dark collar, black belly, white flanks, golden-green wings and back, green tail. Female has grey head, white flanks and golden-green wings.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in south-east Asia and is endemic to Indonesia, only occurring in montane areas on the island of Java. Lives in forest, forest edges, alpine scrubs and clearings, from 1200 to 3000 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is classified as Restricted-range by Birdlife. It is common above 2400 meters and occurs in protected areas.
