Identification
Female brown, streaked underparts and white line behind eye. Male with iridescent green underparts, long ornamental plumes. Subspecies with darker head and orange-yellow back and wings.

Range and habitat
Subspecies occurs on Yapen Island and in western and central New Guinea mountain ranges. Found in hill and lower mountain forests, mostly on steep slopes, to 1780 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species has a patchy range but seems to be safe as its habitat is still in fairly good shape. Rarely caught for the trade and only occasionally killed for its feathers by local tribes.
