Identification
The species can reach a length of 23 cm for a weight of 52 g. Erectile brown crest, grey cheeks, white chin. Olive back, brown-olive wings and tail. Breast greyish-olive and belly yellowish. Very thick and long grey bill.

Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs in South-East Asia from south Thailand and Myanmar to east Sumatra. Other subspecies endemic to Borneo. Lives in lowland primary and secondary closed-canopy forest, to 1500 m.

Status : The species has a fairly large range but some populations in Malaysia and Borneo are declining because of habitat loss and overtrapping.
