Identification
The species reaches 24 cm in length for a weight of 41 g. Wings and tail olive-green. Belly and lower flanks from yellow-green to nearly white, rufous-brown breast and sides of head. Brown crest on crown. White-tipped dark feathers on throat.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in South and Eastern Asia, from north India and Nepal to east China patchily south to south Vietnam, Thailand and Peninsular Malaysia. Lives in broadleaf evergreen forests and nearby open habitats, from 800 to 2700 m.

Status : The species has a large range and seems fairly common. It has been targeted by bird trappers in Vietnam and Cambodia but remains numerous.
