Identification
Black bill, brown wings and back, black tail with white tips, breast and belly dirty white, tinged brown. Subspecies with glossy black cap on face, bright golden-yellow vent.

Range and habitat
Subspecies endemic to Java and Bali (Indonesia), introduced in Singapore. Found in scrub, second growth, agricultural fields, grasslands and open areas with scattered trees, to 1830 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is common and widespread, even in Java where it is caught in very high numbers for the trade. Introduced populations in many Asian countries, including Singapore.
