Identification
Adults can reach a length of 29 cm for a weight of around 100 g. Long and pointed ivory-colored bill, clear blue eyes. Plumage is black with slight metallic sheen. Subspecies with little yellow on wings and yellow rump and undertail.

Range and habitat
Subspecies endemic to western Ecuador and Peru. Species found from central Panama and colombia to Guianas, south to Bolivia and south Brazil. Lives in lowland humid evergreen forests and forest edges.

Status : The species is quite common and has locally benefited from human activities as long as large tracts of intact forest remain near modified habitats.
