Identification
Adults can reach a total length of 35 cm for a weight of 178 g. Easily recognizable with its long and curved black frontal crest. Plumage is black on head and throat, white on belly and tail, dark blue on wings, lower back and upper tail.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in South America, in south-central and eastern Brazil, central-east and north-east Paraguay, and extreme east Bolivia. Lives in dry forests, woodlands and grasslands with scattered trees, up to 1100 m.

Status : The species remains globally common within its range and may have benefited from deforestation. Still potentially vulnerable to habitat loss.
