Identification
Mantle and belly greyish-brown with slight red tinge on belly. Black hood and nape, white lower cheeks and throat. Bright blue flight feathers and tail. Black bill.

Range and habitat
Most of Spain except north and east, east and south Portugal. Found in open woodlands, especially with oak trees and pine trees. From sea level to 700 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species has yet to be assessed on its own. It is locally very common and increasing in Portugal but likely declining in Spain because of competition with Pica pica and habitat loss.
