Identification
Adults grow up to 60 cm in length for a weight of 216 g. Strong black bill, black legs. Black and white plumage with black head. Iridescent dark blue wings. Long tail with green and purple iridescence.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in North America, from Central and south Alaska to central Canada, south to north and central western USA. Lives in open forests, clumps of trees in arid areas, farmland.

Status : The species remains common but it doesn’t tolerate too much heat or humidity. It is also vulnerable to persecution and poisoning.
