Identification
Thick silvery bill with black tip. Head, wings, back and tail dark blue-black with strong violet tinge, especially on sides of head. Breast, belly and forehead patch bright golden yellow.

Range and habitat
South America, from Venezuela and Trinidad to central Brazil, and in most of western and southern Brazil. Subspecies occurs in Guianas and north Brazil. Found in lowland humid forests, plantations and gardens.

Status : The species has a large range but is dependent on lowland forests, making it very vulnerable to habitat loss. Prized cagebird in some countries, leading to possibly unsustainable trapping.
