Identification
Adults can reach up to 22 cm in length for a weight of 46 g. Unmistakable species. Its plumage is mostly black with a large yellow patch on bend of wing. Bill and legs are black, eyes are dark reddish-brown.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in South America, around the Amazon river basin, from south Guianas and north Brazil, east to south and east Peru, and north Bolivia. Lives in primary, secondary, gallery and swamp forests with large trees, to 1200 m.

Status : The species has a fairly extensive range but is globally poorly known. It is thought to be generally uncommon and local.
