Identification
The species grows to 28 cm in length for a weight of 100 g. Golden yellow plumage, black area around eyes and nape band, black flight-feathers and tail with yellow tips. Subspecies with light pink bill and wing coverts dull yellow.

Range and habitat
Species found from India to north China, south to Indonesia. This subspecies occurs from Korea and east China to India and Thailand. Lives in open forests, woodlands, plantations, urban gardens, to 1600 m.

Status : The species is widespread and common. It is very adaptable and sometimes treated as pests. Indonesian subspecies vulnerable to overtrapping.
