Identification
The species grows to 25 cm in length for 79 g. Bright pink-red bill, dark red eyes, grey feet. Plumage mostly bright golden yellow. Wings with black and yellow markings. Black hood extending on throat. Black tail with yellow edges and tips.

Range and habitat
Subspecies found from north India to east China, south to Malaysia and Sumatra. Species also occurs in south India, Sri Lanka, Andaman Is. and Borneo. Lives in dry and moist woodlands, open forests, mangroves, plantations, to 1800 m.

Status : The species remains common in most parts of its range and is found in many protected areas. Deforestation is a threat that must be monitored.
