Identification
Adults can reach up to 10 cm in length for a weight of 16 g. Grey bill, thick and short. Global coloration is olive-green with rufous-orange belly, mottled flanks and yellow forehead. Female has yellowish breast and belly, rufous forehead.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in Central America, from central east Mexico to the Carribbean slope of Honduras, south to north-west Panama. Lives in tall humid tropical forests in lowlands and foothills, up to 1200 meters.

Status : The species remains common in protected areas around its range but has steeply declined in non protected parts because of deforestation.
