Identification
Adults can reach 29 cm in length for a weight of 100 g. Head, back and breast pale ochraceous brown with black lores and chin. Wings and tail more rufous, belly light grey-white. Naked dark blue skin around eyes.

Range and habitat
This species is endemic to south-east Mainland China, being found from Sichuan and Yunnan to Guizhou and Anhui, south to Fujian and Guangdong. Lives in broadleaf evergreen and bamboo forests, plantations, from 600 to 1800 m.

Status : The species seems to be globally uncommon and occurring at rather low densities, even in protected areas within its range.
