Identification
Adults reach 25,5 cm in length for a weight of 76 g. Short black bill, clear eyes. Coloration rich olive-brown with flank, belly and back feathers broadly edged black giving scaly aspect. Dark subspecies, with rusty tail and black throat.

Range and habitat
Subspecies found in south China and north Vietnam. The species occurs from north India to north Myanmar, south China and north Vietnam. Lives in broadleaf evergreen forest with thick undergrowth, from 1500 to 3960 m.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is generally uncommon but seems to remain fairly safe so far. Habitat loss could become an important threat in the future.
