Identification
The species can reach 18 cm in length for a weight of 72 g. Unmistakable. Short but broad bill with distinctive hooked tip. Coloration is mustard-yellow, darker on wings and back, with black bill-ring and greyish flanks.

Range and habitat
The species is found in Central America, from the mountains of North-Central Costa Rica to western Panama. Lives in wet montane forests, forest edges, clearings, from 500 to 2700 meters.

Status : The species has a very small range and limited tolerance to habitat disturbance. It occurs in protected areas and seems to remain safe so far.
