Adults can reach 37 cm in length for a weight of 173 g. Bill thinner than other toucans. Plumage green with red undertail, golden tinge on nape, dark blue throat and cheeks. Bill black and yellow with red area on upper mandible.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the southern parts of Central America, from Costa Rica to Panama and to north Colombia. Lives in submontane and montane wet forest, cloud forest, from 1250 to 2450 m.

Status : The species isn’t currently threatened and is thought to be common in most of its range except in Colombia. Vulnerable to deforestation.
