Identification
Dark green plumage with black tail and flight feathers. Breast yellow-green, dark mottling and streaking on belly. Male has red cap, female is black, black malar area, streaked grey cheeks.

Range and habitat
Southeast Asia, from central Myanmar to Vietnam, then patchily in Malaysia, Sumatra and Java. Found in many types of forests, bamboo forests, plantations and suburban gardens.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not Listed
Status : Wide ranging species, locally common where enough large trees remain. Rarer in Singapore and on Java but occurs in protected areas. Not targeted for the trade, not bred in aviculture.
