Identification
Adults can grow up to 25 cm in length for a weight of 154 g. Female is entirely brown, darker on belly and wings. Male is almost black on underside and tail with purple-violet tinge on wings. Breast and head cream with a beige tinge on nape.

Range and habitat
This species only occurs in the eastern Pacific on the Marianas Islands and Caroline Islands. It is believed to be extinct on Guam. Mostly found in forests, including partly cultivated areas.

IUCN RED LIST : NEAR THREATENED
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is still common on a few islands, especially Rota. It remains vulnerable to introduction of alien predators such as Boiga irregularis.
