Identification
Adults can reach up to 38 cm in length for a weight of 600 g. Unique appearance with its very long curved neck feathers. Head and breast dark grey, neck feathers and body glossy dark or coppery green. Tail blue. Yellow eyes, black cere.

Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, mainland Asia from south Vietnam to Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines and Solomon islands. Found on small wooded islands, in mangroves or forest edges, to 700 m.

IUCN RED LIST : NEAR THREATENED
CITES : Appendix I
Status : The species is vulnerable to disturbance because of its colonial nesting habits. Suffers locally from overhunting and habitat loss.
