Identification
Adults can reach a length of 15 cm for a weight of 52 g. Small dove with black and bright yellow bill. Plumage is mostly brown with slight reddish tinge. Head is blue grey. Rows of black spots on wings.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in the Pacific coast of South America, from extreme south-west Colombia to north Chile. Lives in arid and semi-arid scrublands, grasslands and farmland, up to 2400 m.

Status : The species is common to abundant in most of its range. It may have benefited from human activities as it can occur in disturbed habitats.
