Identification
Adults can reach a length of 48 cm for a weight of 650 g. Small black bill, plumage mostly ashy grey and wings green with metallic sheen. Subspecies with bronzy green wings, duller grey head and breast with very little pink wash.

Range and habitat
Subspecies found in Peninsular Malaysia, greater and lesser Sundas. Species found from south India and south China to Indonesia and Philippines. Lives in forests, open woodlands, gardens, mangroves, to 1300 meters.

IUCN RED LIST : NEAR THREATENED
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species has a huge range and is very adaptable but has been declining because of habitat loss and hunting, particularly in Philippines and Indonesia.
