The species is growing to 73 cm in length for a weight of 2.2 kg. Global coloration greyish-blue with white wing patch. Breast, wings around white patch reddish vinous-purple. Very large lace-like crest (largest of the genus).
Range and habitat
This species is endemic to the island of New Guinea where it is found in the southern half (both on the Indonesian and Papuan sides). Lives in dry, flooded and alluvial forests, from sea level to 500 meters.
IUCN RED LIST : NEAR THREATENED
CITES : Appendix II
Status : Species declining because of habitat loss and hunting for food and its feathers. Now absent from large tracts of forests, only found in remote areas.
