Identification
The species grows to 45 cm in length for a weight of 500 g. Long tail. Head light grey with clear blue eyering. Yellow bill with small red area on upper mandible. Green wings with scattered yellow dots, dark purple-red breast and belly.

Range and habitat
Subspecies occurs on west Papuan islands and Vogelkop peninsula. Species found on West Papuan islands, New Guinea and eastern Australia. Lives in a variety of forest types even near cultivated areas, up to 1400 m.

Status : The species is still locally common but declines have been noted, especially in Australia where the local subspecies is extinct in parts of its range.
