Identification
Small dove growing to 23 cm for 104 g in weight. Female beige-brown with darker wings, each feathers with pale edge. Male has light grey head and rump, black tail, mauve-pink to red-brown wings and breast. Darker subspecies.

Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs from north-east India to east China and Taiwan, south to Philippines and south Thailand. Species also found in Peninsular India. Lives in open country with trees, scrub, dry woodlands, up to 1300 m.
