Identification
Adults can grow up to 31 cm in length for a weight of 308 g. Stocky ground-dove globally brown in color, with a dark reddish to purple tinge on flanks. Top of head is dark violet-grey, black wavy band on cheeks. Eye contour is bright red.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in the southern upland parts of Central America, from Costa Rica to western Panama, in the Chiriquí and Veraguas provinces. Found in understoreys of montane tropical dry forests, up to 3100 m.

Status : The species is very localized and its true status is poorly known as there has been little to no recent field work done. Possibly declining.
