Identification
Adults can reach 15 cm in length for a weight of 58 g. Red bill, white cere, white eye-ring, grey feet. Plumage mostly bright green with dark blue rump, strong yellow tinge on breast. Head, neck and nape orange, darkening towards bill.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in eastern Africa and is endemic to Tanzania being found east and south of Lake Victoria. Feral populations in Kenya, Tanzania and France. Lives in savannas, wooded grasslands, cultivated areas from 1100 to 2200 meters.

IUCN RED LIST : NEAR THREATENED
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species is common in protected areas with suitable habitat within its very small range. Numbers have declined because of overtrapping.
