Identification
The species grows to a length of 36 cm and a weight of 156 g. Green head, breast, belly and tail with yellow tinge on belly. Dark green wings and back with large red patch on wings. Female duller. Subspecies with turquoise nape patch.

Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs in southern New Guinea (Indonesia and Papua New Guinea). Species also found in northern and eastern Australia. Lives in open eucalyptus woodlands, open wooded savannas.

CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species remains common in parts of its range and is locally abundant in Australia because of deforestation. Trapped in big numbers in Indonesia.
