Identification
Adults can grow to 42 cm in length for a weight of 615 g. Male green with red flanks and blue flight feathers. Female bright red. Subspecies pure green for males, female have blue belly and lower breast, faint blue eye-ring.

Range and habitat
Subspecies found in New Guinea, D’Entrecasteaux and Louisiade isl. Species found from east Indonesia to Solomon Islands and extreme north Australia. Lives in the canopy of all kinds of wooded habitats, up to 1900 meters.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : This species has a large range and is relatively common in most of it except on Sumba island where the local subspecies is highly threatened.
