Identification
Adults can grow to 42 cm in length for a weight of 615 g. Male green with red flanks and blue flight feathers. Female bright red. Subspecies has yellow tinge on green for males, yellow rump and tail, violet belly and breast for female.

Range and habitat
Subspecies found in northern and Central Moluccas archipelago in Indonesia. Species found from east Indonesia to Solomon Islands and extreme north Australia. Lives in the canopy of all kinds of wooded habitats, up to 1900 meters.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : This species has a large range and is relatively common in most of it except on Sumba island where the local subspecies is highly threatened.
