Identification
Total length of 31 cm. Bill bright red-orange with dark grey cere. Dark grey-black eye contour. Plumage mostly bright red with black wing tips, blue rump and parts of flight feathers. This subspecies is bigger with bright red coloration.

Range and habitat
The species is endemic to the Moluccas archipelago in central-eastern Indonesia. Subspecies found on most of south Moluccas islands. Lives in lowland forests, mangroves and coconut plantations, to 1800 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : This species is qualified as Restricted Range by Birdlife. It remains common but is declining because of capture for the trade and habitat loss.
