Identification
Plumage mostly bright red except for black wings and lower back. Bright orange bill, violet belly. Subspecies with greatest amount of violet on nape, breast, belly and back.

Range and habitat
Subspecies endemic to the northern islands of Moluccas archipelago (Morotai, Damar and Widi). Lowland and hill forests, forest edges, plantations and mangroves, to 1220 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : Restricted-range species, still locally common but intensely traded from many parts of its range. Monitoring is needed to ensure no declines exist. This subspecies is quite rare in aviculture.
