Identification
Bright red plumage with bright blue round cheek patch, long blue tail, blue wings. Rest of back and upper wings black with red fringes to feathers. Small whitish bill.

Range and habitat
Subspecies endemic to eastern Australia, from Queensland to South Australia. Found in coastal to mountain forests, suburban parks and wet forests, up to 1900 m.

Status : The species is very numerous within its range and this subspecies is particularly numerous, although declining in some areas where forests are being cleared or burnt.
