Identification
Plumage mostly dark brown and black with clear edges to feathers. Orange or yellow belly, breast band, chin, cheek and crown patches. Orange bill, orange skin around lower mandible.

Range and habitat
Most of New Guinea except highest mountain ranges, Salawati and Yapen islands. Found in hilly rainforests, forest edges, plantations, suburban gardens and savannas, to 2400 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species can occur in very big numbers in roosting areas. So far, it remains safe and the numbers traded each year aren’t that big. Deforestation does occur within the species’ range.
