Identification
Short tail, round head, short but broad orange-red bill. Male has blue head, female is brown. Rest of plumage green with yellow edges on wing feathers, bright blue lower back, greyish breast.

Range and habitat
Subspecies occurs on mainland southeast Asia, from South Myanmar to Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra and Borneo. Found in primary and logged rainforests, plantations and clearings.

Conservation
IUCN RED LIST : NEAR THREATENED
CITES : Appendix II
Status : Species declining because of loss of habitat but it can adapt to life in oil-palm plantations. Captured for trade but this doesn’t seem to be a threat. Remains very rare under human care.
