Identification
The species grows to 30 cm in length for 137 g. Bright orange bill. Subspecies with dark blue head, wide yellow collar, dark red breast with black edges to feathers, green belly, wings and tail.

Range and habitat
Species found from Central Indonesia to New Guinea and New Caledonia. This subspecies occurs in south Moluccas, West Papuan islands and New Guinea. Lives in all kinds of forests, woodlands, savannas and plantations, to 2400 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species still has a large range but is declining on many islands because of trapping for the trade and locally habitat loss.
