Identification
The species can grow to 30 cm in length for a weight of 130 g. Silvery grey bill. Plumage quite dark green with blue and green flight feathers and yellow tail. Subspecies with green cheeks, orange-yellow forehead and brown mid-belly.

Range and habitat
Subspecies found from Central Bahia to Parana in Eastern Brazil. The species also occurs in northern and central Bahia state. Lives in deciduous forest fringes, pastureland, second growth with trees, to 2100 m.

CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species was previously abundant but has been steadily declining because of habitat loss and fragmentation. Still caught for the trade.
