Identification
The species reaches 24 cm long for a weight of 80 g. Long red tail, small black bill. Green wings and back with blue feathers. Blue tinge on lower breast, red feathers on belly. Subspecies with black cap, blue cheeks and lores, blue breast.

Range and habitat
Subspecies found in northeast Para and northwest Maranhao in Brazil. Species endemic to north-central Brazil (Para and Maranhao states). Lives in humid tropical forests, forest edges and second growth.

Conservation
IUCN RED LIST : VULNERABLE
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species is more and more threatened by loss of habitat. It is considered nationally endangered in Brazil.
